Malviya Park: Beauty of the South Campus-BHU

Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, which is an extended part of Banaras Hindu University is located in Mirzapur city of Uttar Pradesh. Being a new campus in comparison to Main Campus-BHU, it is still under the developing phase but still, there is a lot of scenery and beauty around the campus which helps the students to rejoice themselves.

In short, Malviya Park of RGSC-BHU is a perfect combination of Madhuban and Vishwanath Temple of the main campus-BHU, where students used to relax after the hectic schedule of their classes.

Malviya park is centrally located open ground area in the green campus of RAJIV GANDHI SOUTH CAMPUS, BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY. This park is known as Malviya park as the statue of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya has been established here. The statue is surrounded by water fountains and colorful lights. Every year On 25th December, Malviya Jayanti is being celebrated with proper rituals and enthusiasm.

Malviya Park is stage ground for all the events getting celebrated in Rajiv Gandhi South Campus-BHU. Malviya Jayanti, Dev Deepawali, Independence Day, Republic Day, etc. are getting celebrated in this park.

This park supports full greenery with almost 25+ types of flowering plants and herbs. The park is surrounded by various display trees like Ashoka and is maintained on a daily basis. There are 5+ types of Roses, 3 types of marigold, Tulips, Mogra, jasmine, garden sunflowers, and various other flowering plants.

Students find it refreshing and peaceful spending time there. They are allowed to go to study, rehearse, sit, discuss, etc. The timing of Malviya park is from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Sunday is being closed.

About Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya

Founder of Banaras Hindu University which is one of the most prominent institutions of learning in India. BHU is the Largest Residential University in Asia, which spread over 16.5 Square KM and a student population of 30,000. Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya was an Indian Educationist and leader who is known for his role in the Indian Independence Movement. In April 1911, when Annie Besant and Malviya met, they decided to work for bringing a common Hindu University in existence in Varanasi. In 1916 Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was established through parliamentary legislation and today BHU and today BHU or Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya is a prominent institution of learning in India.

Malviya Jayanti is Celebrated on 25th December, every year all over India. It is the 158th birthday anniversary of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya popularly known as Mahamana. Malviya was respectfully addressed as “Mahamana” by Mahatma Gandhi. He was born on 25th December 1861 at Prayagraj (Allahabad earlier) in a Sanskrit scholar Brahmin family. His ancestors belong to Madhya Pradesh’s Malwa region that’s why he was named Malviya. He was a son of Brijnath and Moona Devi. He got married just at the age of 16.

Madan Mohan Malviya Completed his L.L.B. from Allahabad University and practiced in Allahabad District Court and the from 1893 practiced at the high court. Malviya was appointed as Chairman of “Hindustan Times” from 1924 to 1946. His efforts resulted in the launch of Hindustan Dainik in 1936. The paper is now owned by the Birla family. Malviya Ji also started a magazine dedicated to religious and Dharmic interests from Banaras Hindu University. Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya was posthumously conferred with Bharat Ratna. India’s highest civilian award on 24 December 2014, a day before his 153rd Birthday Anniversary.
