How to reach VKM (Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya), BHU?

Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya is an affiliated college of Central University, Banaras Hindu University. Founded in 1954, Dr. Rohit Mehta was inspired by the works of Dr. Annie Beasant and established this all-women college in Varanasi, with the motto— Education is service. This institution is run by Besant Education Fellowship and situated in the compound of the Theosophical Society at Kamachha, Bhelupur, Varanasi. Standing on the pavement opposite the BHU main gate, Lanka, you can find e-rikshaw drivers shouting, ‘Rathyatra.’ Hop on the shared vehicle, and to reach VKM, the price will vary from 10-15/- INR according to the rush. A reserved auto-rikshaw might cost 80-100/- INR.

Once you reach Varanasi Cantt or Varanasi junction, the distance covering Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya is about 2.7km. A piece of advice? If you have less luggage with you, then avail of the situation and take a shared e-rikshaw. To your destination, it will be around 10-15/- INR per head but if you reserve an auto-rickshaw or an e-rikshaw, it will cost 80-100/- INR. Now, if you are good at bargaining, use the skill.

The price will vary from 120-150/- INR according to your preference, and for shared e-rikshaw or auto-rikshaw, you will have to pay 40-50/- INR, individually.

Road distance Mughal Sarai or Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jn and Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya (VKM) campus is 19.1 km. Many trains only leave and drop at this Jn, hence making it one of the most important railway stations in Varanasi. For a shared vehicle you will have to pay 50/- INR per person.

The airport of Varanasi is situated in the outskirts of the main city where the colleges are located. The distance between Lal Bahadur Shashtri International Airport to VKM (Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya) is close to 24.5 kilometers which take nearly 44 minutes to an hour to reach if Varanasi’s unrelenting traffic pardons your luck that day. Direct flight facilities are affordably available from cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Goa, Jaipur, Bengaluru, etc.

If you book a private travel agency for suitable transportation, they will charge about 1000-1100/- INR whereas hiring an on-spot Ola cab will vary the cost from 600-650/- INR.

By Rail

The connection of rail-lines throughout Northern-plains to Varanasi, the middle of north Indian areas is good. There are direct trains from central India, Bhopal, and Itarsi, those mainly run from Mumbai, easily uniting the three plains. The best option for students of Kanpur is to board Vande Bharat Express. If you are from Patna, Jamshedpur or Kolkata, trains are linking to Varanasi main junction or other stations vis-à-vis Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jn Station (Mughal Sarai) and Manduadih railway station. Also, note that trains halting at Manduadih station will stop at the main junction, so you must deboard at the latter which will help you save money. Hence, one can easily access the said routes.

By Road

Varanasi, being in the middle of the northern plains connects seamlessly to the cities and towns surrounding the spiritual capital of India. Delhi, Patna, Begusarai, Jamshedpur, Prayagraj, and many other neighbouring cities provide direct bus services to the Chaudhary Charan Bus stand of Varanasi. From the mentioned bus stop, it will cost up to 15-20/- INR to VKM Campus in a shared e-rikshaw and an Ola service will take 97-120/- INR.

Broad lengthening national highways join various cities of India to Varanasi.
