Complete Counselling Procedure of Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

After the result declaration of BHU-UET/PET, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will begin the counselling procedure of all the qualified candidates who wish to pursue their undergraduate/postgraduate courses from Banaras Hindu University. This process is quite simple and easy.

  • The first and most important step is to keep checking your student portal regularly and keep an eye on your mails (you will get all the relevant information and specific dates and details from there only). (Official website)
  • Candidates shortlisted for counselling will be intimated about the issue of call letters through email and SMS. The number of call letters issued is always 3 to 4 times more than the actual number of seats available. So do remember that getting a call letter doesn’t confirm your admission in the university.
  • As there will be no postal dispatch of call letter. You are required to download it from the BHU Entrance Test portal only.
  • For downloading the call letter and other formats and getting other details of procedure of counselling, you are required to log on to the aforesaid portal by giving your User ID and password (as you had downloaded admit card for the entrance examination).
  • Carefully read the procedure given in the Call Letter and instructions under the ‘Counselling Procedure’ section on the Entrance Test portal.
  • It is mandatory to attend the first day of counselling schedule mentioned below with all required documents.
  • No eligible candidate shall advance any claim, whatsoever, for the provisional admission if seats are not vacant at the time of consideration of his/her candidature for admission-counselling. In any case, NO applicant after the last date fixed for counselling (of the concerned course) shall be entertained under any circumstances.

Banaras Hindu University conducts the counselling process of BHU UET/PET in three stages. Before participating in the counselling round, candidates are advised to download BHU call letters for UET/PET. Candidates are suggested to go through the steps provided below:

  1. Filling up of course preference.
  2. BHU UET Seat Allotment process.
  3. Downloading provisional admission letter.
  4. Payment of admission fees.

Step 1: Fill Online Preference Entry Form

Every candidate called for the counselling round needs to fill an online preference entry form. Candidates can access the form on the official website of the university. In the form, a candidate needs to indicate his/ her preference for the following:

  • Honours Subject [Subject Combination]-[for BSc (Hons)]
  • Honours Subject- for BA (Hons)
  • Choice of Course: This preference option is available only if admission is done to more than one course on the basis of merit index/ rank obtained in the Common Test.
  • Preference of location (Faculty/ Department on the Main Campus or RGSC or Affiliated Colleges): This option is available only if a course is offered at more than one location. Depending upon your preference do select the college/campus accordingly.

Step 2: Seat Allotment Process of BHU-UET/PET

 {IMPORTANT – All the counselling procedure of seat allotment will be conducted in the faculty of main campus itself, candidates are not required to visit other campus and affiliated colleges during the admission process.}

  • After filling up the online preference form, the exam conducting body will release the schedule for seat allotment and counselling. Candidates must reach the counselling centre at the prescribed date and time along with the documents. After reaching the counselling venue, candidates will have to sign an attendance sheet. Candidates will be called for their counselling on the basis of their rank secured in the entrance test.
  • Candidates are also advised to consult the faculty head to know about the course details, location, fees structure, and hostel availability. While doing so, candidates will also get a chance to change their preferences. They will be able to do so by informing the admission officer present at the venue of counselling.
  • After finalizing the preferences for counselling, candidates can submit it along with the original documents for verification. Preference entry form once finalized by the candidate on the day of their counselling shall be considered final. After final submission, candidates will be allotted seats on the basis of their rank in the entrance test, preferences of course and seat availability. Admissions to the paid seats will be done only after all the regular seats are filled.

Seat Type:

This option includes the candidate’s choice of the seat with a regular fee-only or paid seat if the regular fee seats are full. Paid seat form will be available at the time of counselling in the faculty. You can simply ask for the paid seat form from the staff during your counselling process.

Documents required at time of counselling of BHU

{ IMPORTANT – Please bring all the original documents along with there multiple xerox ( at least 4 ) at the time of counselling}.

  1. BHU UET/PET admit card
  2. BHU UET/PET scorecard
  3. Issued Call letter for counselling
  4. Class 12th marksheet and certificate
  5. Class 10th marksheet and certificate
  6. Transfer certificate
  7. Migration certificate
  8. School leaving certificate
  9. Sports category certificate (if applicable)
  10. Caste certificate (if applicable)
  11. Certificate issued by Central Registry for sons/daughters of permanent employees/ re-employed/ retired/ deceased employees of Banaras Hindu University.
  12. Aadhar Card.

Do not worry if the documents are not ready at that time. You will be given ample amount of time for submitting the remaining documents. You just have to fill up the consent form provided by your faculty itself. But to be on the safer side, keep all your documents ready.

Inside the counselling room

Candidates are allotted rooms on the basis of their respective ranks and index. The faculty staff will provide you all the important details. You will be asked to submit all the necessary documents in a file folder (folder will be provided in the faculty itself). You will be asked about any changes if you want to make to your preference entry form. If any, you can edit the form in the computer room of the faculty. And at the same time, paid seat forms will also be available. You can fill them if you want to. Further, you can ask any doubts regarding your query from the faculty members.

 Step 3: Downloading of provisional admission letter

All those candidates who have been allotted seats and are selected for admission will further have to download their provisional admit card from the portal. The campus allotment information will be provided through the portal itself.  The provisional call letter will likely to have the following information:

  • Regular fee (admission fee)/ paid seat fee (regular fee + paid seat fee).
  • Last date of paying the fees.
  • Mode of payment.
  • Name of the course.
  • Date of next counselling.

 Step 4: Payment of admission fees

After receiving the Provisional Admission Letter, candidates can pay the admission fee of their respective course within 24 hrs.

  • The admission fee can be paid by candidates in online (via credit/ debit card through the payment gateway available on your portal) or offline (by paying cash at the fee counters of the varsity) mode.
  • Once the fee is paid, candidates need to submit the proof of payment of admission fee at the Counselling Centre latest by 4:00 PM on the next day of the counselling.
  • However, it may be noted that the proof is not required in case of online payment of admission fees.

During the process of hostel allotment and for further process you will be called for second counselling. Candidates are required to reach the faculty for submitting ANTI -RAGGING and DOSSIER FORMS. The required documents will be available on the website and portal. Candidates are requested to fill and submit the required documents in the copies of at least 4 or more in the faculty on the given date and time.

This is the complete process of counselling in Banaras Hindu University. After this, the candidates will be informed for the commencement of classes through website.
