What’s the issue?

Every year in the month of April-May, Banaras Hindu University conducts its entrance examinations, which was further extended due to COVID-19 this year. At the end of April, where the total number of corona affected people in the country was 33 thousand and 1700 cases were coming daily, it seemed unsafe for the university administration to do the entrance examinations, when in the first week of August this number has crossed 20 lakhs. And more than 60 thousand cases are coming every day, then the university administration has announced the dates of entrance examinations. According to the estimates of experts, in the month of August, this number will also cross 3 million. So, in the last week of August and in the second week of September, this decision to send lakhs of candidates to their examination centres in every part of the country is beyond comprehension. A major concern is also for the city of Banaras where the largest number of examinees sit during the entrance examination and where around 5000 cases have been reported so far and around 300 new cases are coming up every day.

Concern of Students

According to the students, Lakhs of candidates sit for admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the entrance examinations which are being conducted in different cities. Thousands of candidates will go from one city to another for the entrance test. What would be like risking their lives in this terrible phase of the Corona epidemic?

Among the students currently studying in the university, a lot of students have to take the entrance course of the Master’s course, while on the other side, BHU administration has asked for the assignment of all the papers of the last semester in 15 days and in the meantime has also announced the dates of the entrance exam, due to which they are facing a lot of problems.

The standard of social distancing on Sunday appeared to be wired. Outside the examination centres, a large crowd appeared two yards away. In the first shift, there was a jam from Lanka gate to inside BHU campus. People riding on two-wheelers stood close to each other. Many three-wheelers had three candidates. Social distancing was not taken care of even in the line of candidates outside the centres. Examiners are also under social stress during the morning shift.
