Banaras Hindu University (BHU), commonly known as Capital of Knowledge, is a central university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Being a central university, BHU offers courses in many subjects at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The university is serviced by two campuses (main campus and south campus) due to which the university has various academic departments.
The main campus of Banaras Hindu University is spread over 1,360 acres (5.3 sq. km) was built on land donated by Kashi Naresh Prabhu Narayan Singh, the hereditary ruler of Banaras. The South campus (commonly known as RGSC-BHU), spread over 2,760 acres (11 sq. km), hosts the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Center for Agricultural Sciences), Faculty of Veterinary Science & DDU Kaushal Kendra (for vocational courses) is located in Barkachha, Mirzapur district, about 85 km from Banaras.

By Air
The nearest airport to the Varanasi is Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur which is about 32 km from Banaras Hindu University. Direct flights to Varanasi can be easily obtained from cities like Delhi, Agra, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Bhubaneswar airports. Once you are out of the airport there are quite a lot of taxis available and ola services are also up to the mark. The fare of the taxi from the airport to the BHU campus is around INR 500 / -.
By Rail
Since Varanasi is situated in the middle of the North Indian plains, it is connected to major cities of India by rail. There are three railway stations in Varanasi. The one being Varanasi Cantt. Railway Station (Junction), Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jn Station (Mughal Sarai), and Manduadih railway station.
By Road
Varanasi is connected with major cities via good motorable roads. One can find direct buses from cities like Delhi, Azamgarh, Robertsganj, Allahabad (Prayagraj), Motihari (Bihar) & many other cities. From Chaudhary Charan Bus stand, you can easily find the buses for the different cities.

From Varanasi Cantt. Railway station to BHU
BHU Campus is approximately 10 km. from Varanasi Cantt. railway station. Round-the-clock auto/taxi services are available from Varanasi Cantt. You can easily get a reserved auto as soon as you are out of platform 1, which costs around Rs.150-200 (Bargaining is highly recommended) and if you book a taxi it will cost you around Rs. 300 / – to 350 / – .
Also, if you are short of money, you can find yourself a share auto easily. You just need to go straight out of the station, and on the right-hand side, you will hear everyone screaming ‘Lanka-Becchu’. Just get into one and you will be charged only Rs. 20. But they will leave you at a distance of 100m away from the campus gate, but you can enjoy the crowd of Lanka and within 10 minutes, you will be at the gate of the BHU campus.
Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jn. to BHU
BHU Campus is approximately 20 km. away from the pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction. Round-the-clock auto/taxi services are available from pt. deen Dayal to BHU (Lanka). Temporary charges for reserved auto is INR 200 / -, shared auto Rs. 35 / – and for Taxi, INR 300 / – to 350 / -.
Apart from the reserved vehicles, the shared auto will also drop you directly at the gate and will take about 45min. to 60 min. to make you reach your destination.
Manduadih railway station to BHU
You would be surprised to know that Manduadih station has been declared as the cleanest station in our country. You will get an auto just outside the station which will charge only about 20 Rs. and will drop you at the Banaras Hindu University’s main gate. It takes only 20 minutes for a share auto to make you reach your destination. If you wish to go for a reserved auto, it will charge you around Rs. 100 to 150 only and is easily available just outside the station.
last but not the least, if you get stuck anywhere in the city, go to a local shopkeeper and ask him about BHU. He will tell you the smallest possible route every time.
